The author has made Kamikochi (Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture), one of Japan’s top mountain scenic spots, his main field of photography, continuing to capture the area for over 20 years. This work is a monochrome collection that expresses the "spirituality" felt when encountering Kamikochi's beautiful landscapes, shaped by the eternal flow of time since the great eruption 12,000 years ago, and the primitive nature. Drawing inspiration from the "Japanese view of nature," which sees the soul in all things, the photographer discovered a cycle of life within Kamikochi through the high mountains like Mt. Hotaka, the valleys and rocks shaped by the Azusa River, and the forests and wetlands where diverse life thrives.
