Currently works at a bookbinding company, and based in Tokyo as an artist. Kawaguchi was inspired to create photographs that evoke memories of "that summer" from his childhood after encountering a broken camera that produce slightly magenta tinted photograph. He took photos of "this summer," mindful of both the present and the future, in color. Kawaguchi speaks of how, during the summer, "enclaves of memory" seems to appear. Using subjects such as cicadas, woods, sunflowers, beaches, insect nets, riverbanks, schoolyards, and family, he resonates with scenes of summer embedded in our collective memories, all within the essence of time framed by photographing. Kawaguchi believes that photography should not merely be a measure of expression. He says, "Photography begins as photography, transforms into something else, refuses all description, and I want it to end as photography." His dedication to the purity of photography led him to name his debut photo book "Breathless". The book design, created by Satoshi Machiguchi, embodies the artist's intentions: the body of the book contains only photographs, with the text printed on the cover. Moreover, the air gap between the book and its cover, creates a pulsating structure like a pump.
